She <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">doesn\u2019t hesitate to<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">comment on my appearance, be it clothes <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">or body, which doesn\u2019t bother me except that it can be a bit <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">repetitive because of her failing memory.<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u2018Vous \u00eates maigre\u2019, thin. I ask back, does she mind? Certainly <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">not, as long as there is enough strength in me, I understand.<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Other observations by Mme El : \u2018Votre visage est rouge!\u2019 <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">after I had bent down to fasten her shoes. \u2018des veines, des <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">peines\u2019, veins, pains, that\u2019s her looking at my hands.<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Mme El is eighty-nine. When she hears the figure she says <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">it\u2019s time to go, but then laughs mischievously, obviously not <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">prepared to do so just yet. I tell her that suits me. I dressed <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">up a bit for her because she likes it. I suppose she likes her <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">friends to look good: yellow blouse, her favourite colour, <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u2018golden Oriole \u2013 le loriot jaune \u2013 le jaune remonte le moral\u2019, <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">yellow improves our morale, under green pullover, topped by <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the Vietnamese tiger-eyes necklace, golden-brown, my best <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">jeans, brand new and ironed, black all-leather shoes from <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Pau, hair done up! She looked me up and down, pleased!<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">She points out the deep fold in the skin of my throat. I <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">remind her of my age and say that it\u2019s better there than in the <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">face. She nods agreement.<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">She tells me that my colourful pullovers make me look <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">younger, \u2018cela vous rajeunit\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>She is direct with everybody and I am no exception.
